"My dog comes when called despite distractions."

What Is Recall?

Recall simply means teaching your dog to return to you when given a specific cue.

This might be:

• "Come!"
• "Here!"
• A whistle
• Another word you've chosen

Choose one cue and use it consistently.

If your dog fails repeatedly, go back a level.

Never Punish Your Dog for Coming Back

You grab them and yell.

What might your dog learn?

Coming back to you = bad things happen.

This can help you practice recall without immediately giving your dog unrestricted freedom.

A reliable recall doesn't happen because you repeated "come" 100 times.

It happens because your dog repeatedly learns:

Coming back to my person is rewarding and safe.

Build that association.

Practice consistently.

Increase distractions gradually.

And make yourself worth returning to.
